Born in Vienna in 1947 and currently based in the same city. West investigates the relationship between objects and the body through installations and sculptures made out of a variety of materials. His work has won much critical acclaim at numerous international exhibitions including Documenta (in 1992 and 1997), the Munster Sculpture Project (1997), the Venice Biennale (in 1988, 1993, 1997 and 2003), as well as a solo show at the Museum of Modern Art in New York (1997). For the Aichi Triennale, West will be showing "Untitled," an installation that highlights the sense of distance between the viewer and the artwork.
