A project by Tim Etchells and Vlatka Horvat

Over the table is a 5-day long collaborative project by Tim Etchells and Vlatka Horvat. Following their previous collaborations - the hour-long improvised videos Insults & Praises (2003) and Threats & Promises (2008), as well as the 5-week long 'faxing performance' To Bring Down a House (2006/2008) - Over the Table is conceived as a continuous process of call and response between the two artists. Conducted in a gallery space which they occupy together for the duration of the piece, Over the Table takes the form of a series of playful and competitive exchanges which unfold within a set of pre-arranged performative frames. Visitors may arrive, depart, and return at any point during gallery opening hours and will always encounter the artists engaged in one or another of their collaborative activities and tasks. The space of the gallery itself will change from day to day, as evidence of the artists' diverse activities gradually fills the space, accumulating alongside whatever is currently happening.

Tim Etchells
Etchells' work is diverse, moving from a base in performance into visual art and fiction. Working across different media and contexts seems to open up new possibilities, allowing him the chance to approach related ideas by different routes, and to get closer to the thematics and expreriences that interest him. In addition to working solo, many of his projects in art and performance have been collaborative in some way - Etchells has led the performance group Forced Entertainment, based in Sheffield, UK since its inception in 1984 and has worked with many other artists and choreographers. His work has been seen around the world, with recent solo exhibitions at Gasworks in London and at Kuenstlerhaus Bremen, both 2010. He has participated in Manifesta 7 (Rovereto, Italy 2007) and Goteborg Biennale 2009.

Vlatka Horvat
Vlatka Horvat is an artist working with photography, video, performance, collage, and installation. Much of her recent work has been interested in the problematics of occupying space, and has explored the human body's contentious relationship with everyday objects, landscape, and the built environment. Select recent exhibitions include MoMA PS1, Marlborough Gallery, and the Kitchen (all in New York), annex14 in Bern, Galerie Xippas in Paris, and 2009 Istanbul Biennial. Vlatka's performance work has been shown internationally at festivals and public sites.
