- Umeda was born in 1977 in Tokyo. He commenced his artistic work in 2000. In addition to choreography and dance, visual image, sound and lighting design are included in his work. This has earned him a reputation "more as a visual artist rather than a choreographer, a mover rather than a dancer." He has been invited to major festivals in the West.For Aichi Triennale 2010, he presents two performances: "Adoption for Distortion" (Japan Premiere) and "Haptic." He will also present installation works.
