Film director. Sokurov was born in Irkutsk, Siberia. Active in Saint Petersburg. In 1978, he produced his first feature-length movie "Painful Indifference." He continues to produce both documentary and narrative films at a constant rate, pioneering new forms of filmic expression from the early times with "Painful Indifference" and "Maria."
