Her research addresses a number of contemporary social issues, investigating the public sphere at many levels through films and installations. Van Oldenborgh's movies are often shot at public spaces and scripted in collaboration with the participants, a practice that consistently affects the projects' final outcomes. Recent exhibitions include the Kyiv Biennial (2015), van Abbemuseum, Eindhoven (2014), Venice Biennial (2011), Moscow Biennial (2011), Sao Paulo Biennial (2010) and Istanbul Biennial (2009), besides a number of smaller dedicated shows.
