Born in Osaka

B.Mus/M.Mus from Tokyo University of the Arts. Recipient of the 24th Giraud Opera Prize and the 3rd Russia Vocal Award. After studying in Milan, Tsumaya sang as a member of the Leipzig Opera (1994–2001) and the Deutsches Nationaltheater Weimar (2002–2011), performing throughout Europe at the likes of the Bregenz Festival, the DeutscheOper of Berlin, the Berlin State Opera, and the Deutsche Oper am Rhein, and the New National Theatre Tokyo among a great many other theatres in Japan. His robust stature, soft, rich voice, and depth of acting have created an overwhelming presence in his more than 800 performances of over 60 operas and 80 roles. He appears also in orchestra concerts, and as a soloist in religious music performances, and conducts master classes as part of his educational activities. Member of Nikikai.
