Song SANGHEE

Born 1970 in Seoul, South Korea
Based in Seoul, South Korea and Amsterdam, the Netherlands

From the standpoint of her own social position as an ordinary woman raised in a middle-class South Korean household and facing no visible adversity, Songhee interprets as a single system the collective obsessions and ethical values of women in Korean society forced to play the roles of the good daughter, good mother, and good wife, and creates works rooted in skepticism about this prefabricated social framework. She also retells history from the vantage points of people such as minorities and the socially disadvantaged that are not included in the conventional narratives of History with a capital H, seeking to give voices to the voiceless.
