Nomin BOLD
Born 1982 in Ulan Bator, Mongolia
Based in Ulan Bator, Mongolia
Nomin graduated Mongolian University of Arts and Culture in 2005. She uses the aesthetics of Mongolian and Buddhist art, commissioned by ancient religious and imperial institutions, to comment on contemporary issues. She was trained in traditional painting methods and began her career by incorporating archaeological findings and intricate images of deities into her artwork.
She now uses symbol-heavy colors and figures to question everyday values. She examines themes of wealth, politics, nature, and human relationships by placing people from secular society in the world of gods. Her goal is to displace current conventions and encourage viewers to evaluate cultural norms from the point of view of Mongolia’s ancient history.
