Nidhal CHAMEKH

Born 1985 in Dahmani, Tunisia
Based in Paris, France

Nidhal Chamekh graduated from the School of Fine Arts in Tunis and in Paris. The Tunisian districts where he grew up as well as the persecution of his activist family have had profound impacts on his art. Nidhal's works in various mediums have dealt with the chaos of human history, while trying to dissect the constitution of the contemporary identities in the intersection between a biographical microcosm and a political framework, between personal experience and history archive. His research into collective histories and politics has been through the prism of violence, simultaneously conveying intimate relations between things and a violent starkness of individual representation. Chamekh’s works have been shown in the 56th Venice Biennale(2015), 11th, Dakar Biennial(Senegal, 2014), The Hood Museum of Art and Art Basel Hong Kong among others.
