NAKAMURA Yuta

Born 1983 in Tokyo
Based in Kyoto

Since he was a student majoring in ceramics, Nakamura Yuta has researched and created tiles, ceramics and more from the perspective of “crafts on the periphery of folk culture and architecture.” His works are based on extensive research. By exhibiting tile shards and pottery fragments alongside related materials, or reconfiguring them as elements of architecture, Nakamura evokes the lifestyles, customs, culture, and climate of old Japan. He participated in the 8th Asia Pacific Triennial of Contemporary Art (2015-16) and the 20th Biennale of Sydney (2016). Major exhibitions in Japan include Roppongi Crossing 2013: Out of Doubt (Mori Art Museum, Tokyo 2013). He also runs the App Arts Studio, an educational program that interprets crafts from the artisan’s perspective and explores the processes used to create them.
