Mariana CASTILLO DEBALL

Born 1975 in Mexico City, Mexico
Based in Berlin, Germany

Based on long research processes, Mariana Castillo Deball's projects explore the ideologically constructed conditions under which artifacts appear in western culture. Working with installations, sculpture, photography and drawing, Castillo Deball establishes collaborations with multiple institutions - not necessarily linked to contemporary art -, transiting through archeology, science and technology to investigate the multiple ways in which historical objects might be exposed and read at different spaces of knowledge. Her work has been exhibited at the 8th Berlin Biennale (2004); dOCUMENTA (13) (Kassel, Germany, 2012); and 54th Venice Biennale (2011). Individual shows have been held at the Hamburger Bahnhof Museum of Contemporary Art (Berlin, Germany); CCA (Glasgow, UK); Chisenhale Gallery (London, UK); Museo Experimental El Eco (Mexico City, Mexico); and Museum of Latin American Art (Long Beach, USA).
