Laura LIMA
Born 1971 in Governador Valadares, Brazil
Based in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil
Received a BA in Philosophy from the State University of Rio de Janeiro and studied at Escola de Artes Visuais do Parque Lage, Rio de Janeiro.
Since mid nineties, Laura Lima has put forth a body of works that she describes as ‘images’ which are attempts to articulate visually, and in concrete reality, a personal glossary of concepts that she has worked and reworked until today. Emblematic of this are the works gathered under the formula Man=flesh/Woman=flesh in which humans and animals are used as mere matter (flesh) that executes a precise set of instructions. Solo Exhibitions are: Museo de Arte Moderno de Buenos Aires (Argentina); MUAC (Mexico City, Mexico); Migros fur Gegenwartskunst (Zurich, Switzerland); Casa França Brasil (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil); Bonniers Konsthall (Stockholm, Sweden); Bonnefantenmuseum (Maastricht, The Netherlands), SMK - National Gallery of Denmark (Copenhagen), among others.
