Israel GALVÁN
Born 1973 in Sevilla, Spain
Based in Sevilla, Spain
Israel Galván grew up dancing classical flamenco from an early age with his flamenco-dancer parents. In 1994 He joined the Compañed Andaluza de Danza directed by Mario Maya, and has since enjoyed unstopping praise the likes of “revolutionary,” “avant-garde” and “genius.” In 1998 he form his own company to focus on creating his own works. In each of his works, he has collaborated with flamenco dancers and musicians classical and contemporary alike. His daringly innovative works that deconstruct traditional flamenco technique continue to expand the possibilities of flamenco. Recipient of numerous awards including the French Ordre des Arts et des Lettres.
At Aichi Triennale 2016, he will perform two works: Solo, which Galvan himself will dance alone; and his new work FLA.CO.MEN, a journey through the origins of flamenco and Galván’s own upbringing, which he performs together with radical musicians.
