Iman Issa is a visual artist whose multi-media works explore the interactions between materials, history, and language. For the Aichi Triennale 2016, Issa presents new works from her ongoing series “Heritage Studies” started in 2015. In these works, the artist re-interprets historical artifacts she finds relevant to the present, and couples them with vinyl text describing the artifact of origin. The linkage between word and object, as well as the use of museological display and exhibition tropes to allow objects and forms to speak, are common features of Issa’s practice. Issa is currently based in Cairo and New York, and teaches at the Cooper Union School of Art.
