IMAMURA Fumi
Born 1982 in Aichi
Based in Aichi
Based in Nagakute, Aichi Prefecture, Imamura works in the medium of encaustic (wax-based paint.) This is an ancient technique, used to decorate the coffins of Egyptian mummies, in which pigment is mixed with heated liquid wax and applied to a wood panel, and is extremely time-consuming. Using this technique, Imamura fills the entire surfaces of panels with patterns featuring motifs such as flowers and leaves. The resulting surfaces differ from those created using the oil or acrylic paints of the modern and contemporary era, with visual effects that bewitch the viewer.
