Born 1978 in Palermo, Italy

Gaetano d’ESPINOSA began his music career as a violinist, winning top awards at the Vittorio Veneto (1992) and Rovere d'Oro (1996) violin competitions. From 2003 to 2008 he was concertmaster of the Saxon State Orchestra, Dresden where he premiered his concerto for violin. Since 2008, he has focused exclusively on conducting. In 2010 he conducted La Traviata at Semperoper Dresden, in 2011 I Pagliacci at Teatro Carlo Felice Genova and in 2012 Gianni Schicchi, Il Tabarro, Suor Angelica at Nouvel Opera House in Lyon, all to resounding acclaim. Soon after he received successive invitations to conduct for major orchestras and theatres throughout Italy including Filarmonica Teatro la Fenice in Venice, Maggio Musicale Fiorentino, Orchestra di Santa Cecilia Roma, Orchestra Sinfonica Nazionale della RAI di Torino, and Teatro dell’Opera in Rome. He was appointed principal guest conductor of the Orchestra Sinfonica di Milano Giuseppe Verdi in September 2013.
