Chilla: 40 Days Drumming
S50
Chilla is an extreme practice handed down by north Indian classical musicians. Retreating from worldly life, musicians devote themselves to performance while being confined solely in a hut for 40 days, to pursue perfection in the music itself they perform. Following this tradition, the representative Japanese tabla player U-zhaan will be performing a daily 10-hour practice for a period of 40 days beginning on the opening day of the Triennale. His performance will be open to the public.
