In this work, you see different music genres, their sound, and some graphics that each genre represents. They have been made with "Microsoft PowerPoint", which is a popular presentation software. The film was made as a part of a project, based on the artists' workshop* called "A Song to Change the World."
You will not find these genres in record stores or music magazines, as the artists created them from their imagination.
There are genres that exist in the fields of art, cinema, and fashion. These genres have their own concepts and formats while being developed in response to the times in which they are created. By arranging each seemingly chronologically, each referring to the other, you may be able to indicate historical contexts.
Though genres are considered significant in the music industry, connected its commercialism, broadly speaking such does not matter to people who love music, whether professional or amateur.
*A workshop and performance are planned in September for the Aichi Triennale 2019
Song-Ming ANG and Jason MALING
Began collaboration 2017 in Singapore.
Song-Ming Ang makes art revolving around music, pop culture and the everyday, while Jason Maling makes process driven performances that evolve in response to social encounters. They began collaborating in 2017 on a series of strategies that indulge their mutual love of pop music and explore the cultural significance of the amateur. Grouped under the title A Song To Change The World, their project is constituted by the perpetual performance of an impossible task, a generative process that asks the seemingly simple, yet fiendishly complex question: what kind of song could change the world? Embracing futility, doubt, and earnest ambition, the artists invite the public to work with them in a series of workshops, lectures, and public performances to assist them in their mission.
