The conflict and slaughter that has continued in Congo for over 20 years, since 1996, is described as a forgotten war with six million victims, the greatest number since World War II. Driving it all are mineral resources essential to the production of a certain product that we cannot do without. For this work, Rau asked people involved in the conflict to appear as themselves and created a play in the form of a mock trial, featuring the victimized local populace, multinational mining companies, provincial governors, the minister in charge of the police, the International Criminal Court in the Hague, lawyers from the region and militant groups. The voices of many witnesses overlap, revealing the truth about corruption, collusion, complicity, robbery, rape and mass killing. Two ministers were pardoned as a result of this ambitious fusion of theater and journalism.
