Psychomagic, A Healing Art
© Pascale Montandon-Jodorowsky
The latest film by the director Alejandro Jodorowsky, Psychomagic, A Healing Art, is a cinematographic experience demonstrating the practice of "psychomagic," a therapeutic art he created many decades ago. It incorporates footage from past works he has directed, revealing how the art of psychomagic binds together many scenes in Jodorowsky's films. Placing himself in a different approach than Sigmund Freud, he asserts that psychomagic is not a science based on words but an art based on acts. The film shows how Jodorowsky has responded to each personal problem of suffering people and healed it with his art of Psychomagic therapy over many decades. Also it shows how he has developed such therapeutic art into what he calls "Social Psychomagic", for groups of persons, cities, and countries.
