The installation consists of a large screen in the front gallery and six monitors in the back space. In the back room, six different interviews can be viewed. Each documents the lived experience of a single refugee, their personal narratives of having fled their countries in response to a range of oppressive conditions. Fragments of these interviews are re-performed by Hollywood actors Alec Baldwin and Julianne Moore in the front gallery. Via a relatively accessible drama featuring two familiar actors, visibility is created for the personal narratives of the six refugees: Shabeena Saveri, Mamy Maloba Langa, Sarah Mardini, Farah Mohamed, José Maria João and Luis Nava Molero.
Each interviewee talks about adversities, hardships during their escape and current circumstances. Summaries of the biography of each is available in a handout. The work highlights how each had to leave their country due to various reasons such as war, political conflict and issues around gendered identity, etc. Many of them say in the interviews, "I never thought I would leave my country".

Recent works by Candice Breitz have focused on the conditions under which empathy is produced, reflecting on a media-saturated global culture in which strong identification with fictional characters and celebrity figures runs parallel to widespread indifference to the plight of those facing real world adversity. Following the completion of her works Love Story (2016) and TLDR (2017), she is currently working on the third part of a video trilogy that critically probes the attention economy. Breitz has been a tenured professor at the Braunschweig University of Art since 2007.
