Aichi Triennale 2019

The film documents a party that the artist invite Latin American workers living in Nagoya. You see a sign saying "Latinos In Japan," Latin food and music provided. The participants who are gently smiling at the beginning of the film gradually begin to dance and are having fun as the party goes on.
Many foreigners are living in Aichi, and the reasons of their migration vary. Some came for work or grew up in Japan with foreign parents, while others came to Japan through marriage. "You must be musical, danceable, carefree and social if you are Latin.", says José Galindo who also is Latin American.
Instead of bounding the workers by their daily jobs, the party was intended to offer them joyful time to celebrate and free the Latin spirit which may be hidden in their everyday life. The film makes us reconsider stereotyping and cultural identities, as well as the values of exchange between labor and culture.
