He was born in Bologna, Italy and was awarded the best Italian singer at the Viotti Competition in 1986. He made his debut in 1989 with the `Sicilian Vespers` conducted by Riccardo Muti at La Scala Theater in Milan, Italy. He also played with many famous conductors such as Bruno Bartoletti, Chung Myung-Whun, Antonio Pappano, Wolfgang Sawallisch, and George Solti in opera houses such as the Bavarian State Opera, the Royal Opera House, and the Metropolitan Opera House. He is one of the most highly respected bass singers in the aspects of his deep toned voice, well-trained rich lamprophony, and unusual technique of coloratura. For the Triennale 2010, he will play with the conductor Asher Fisch.
