Born in Hyogo Prefecture. Following a degree in architecture from the University of Tokyo faculty of engineering, obtained a master's degree from the university's Graduate School of Interdisciplinary Information Studies. Studying opera production under Michael Hampe, in addition to assisting foreign directors at the New National Theater, Tokyo and directing re-performances there, directs at the Nissay Theater, Tokyo Nikikai: Opera Foundation, and other venues. Participating in productions by the likes of Hideki Noda, Yukio Ninagawa, and Kazuaki Kiriya, Taoshita has been involved in numerous cross-genre projects. Winner of the 2009 Gotoh Memorial Foundation Opera New Artist's Prize.
