Richard WILSON

Born 1953 in London, based in London

Studied at London College of Communication, Hornsey College of Art and Reading University. Richard Wilson was nominated for the prestigious Turner Prize in both 1988 and 1989. His room filled with sump oil in the collection of the Saatchi Gallery, which viewers enter through a narrow channel, has come to be considered one of most symbolic works of installation art in the UK. In addition to installations, Wilson works in video. He also formed a band in the 1980's through which he pursued his musical practice. He was a German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) resident in Berlin from 1992 through 1993. He has participated in a numerous art festivals including the Sydney, São Paulo, and Venice Biennales, and the Yokohama and Echigo-Tsumari Triennales. His eight-meter ovoid cut out of the façade of a building and rotated was the talk of the 2008 Liverpool Biennial.
