Formed 2009 in Berlin (Germany), based in Berlin.
Founded in 2009, the collective of artists, game designers and academics "use cities as platforms for play" membership of the collective fluctuates by project around seven core individuals. Players are recruited for games staged in urban spaces and employing connections between people, environments, and technologies including the media, with a consistent theme of cultivating new understanding of cities and society. In the games, strangers follow "rules" set by Invisible Playground to cooperate and compete and discover new relationships between the city and self (people) not readily apparent in day-to-day conduct. Invisible Playground have appeared by invitation at theatres, art spaces and festivals across Europe and beyond.
