HIRANO Ryo

Born 1988 in Saitama. Graduate of Tama Art University's Department of Interaction Design. Hirano cleverly combines different textures such as cel animation, illustrations, dioramas and computer graphics to express the world inside his own head, where a sci-fi worldview and Showa retro style mingle. Won the newcomer's award in the entertainment category of the Japan Media Arts festival for Hietsuki Bushi, which was also a music video for Japanese musician Omodaka. His work Holiday has earned an enthusiastic following both in Japan and abroad. Littered with memories from the maker's childhood in its narrative details, its scenes in Hakone and Matsushima are particularly striking. Revolving around the tragic love of the hero, a newt, and a woman, the rising and falling motion of water, evaporating and permeating, is portrayed with a delicious incomprehensibility and pop sensibility. Jury pick in the animation category of the Japan Media Arts Festival. Won top prize in the 17th student CG contest.
