Born 1983 in Aichi (Japan), based in Germany.
Completed his MA in media and design at Nagoya University of Arts and Sciences in 2008. Working mainly in video, his output also includes photographs, installations and multimedia works. In these he deals with fragmented and dangling stories in characterless urban settings, or conversely, peculiar entities rooted to a particular place. In other, simple documentation of things like burning candles or frozen leaves, he captures traces of time passed. One thing common to all Hirakawa's multifaceted works is the power of his hard, static images. At the 2010 Aichi Triennale competition segment, he presented a video work filmed along the Nakagawa Canal in Nagoya.
