Bill MORRISON

Video artist born 1965 in Chicago, based in New York. In 1989 graduated from the Cooper Union for the Advancement of Science and Art. Morrison's works are screened frequently in theaters, art museums and concert halls. He employs a technique of “found footage” reusing existing films. Most of these are old silent movies that never see the light of day. Though much deteriorated, causing the images to warp and discolor, to us today they seem fresh and beautiful. Prominent composers – Iceland's Johann Johannsson for The Miners' Hymns and American Michael Gordon for Dicasia – have provided soundtracks for Morrison's works. The music for TRIBUTES-Pulse is courtesy of Danish composer and percussionist Simon Christenson. TRIBUTES is a four-part requiem for the 20th century based on the four elements of water, earth, fire and wind.
