Allison SCHULNIK

Artist. Born 1978 in San Diego, based in Los Angeles. Studied experimental animation at California Institute of the Arts. While her paintings and ceramic sculptures appear in group and solo exhibitions around the world, her claymation films have also appeared in international film festivals including the International Film Festival Breda (The Netherlands), Melbourne International Festival of Animation, and Ann Arbor Film Festival. Although her production methods vary, her worldview is consistent: a world in which form-changing figures and animals empathize; sci-fi-like, yet almost mythical. Forest also features a mysterious creature made from masses of colorful clay whose encounter in a forest with its own reflection becomes the momentum for metamorphosis. The music inpired this tag-team effort with the band Grizzly Bear, whose music the artist commissioned for her 2008 video Hobo Clown.
