Contemporary Arts

International Exhibition of Contemporary Art(Exhibition in art museums and other areas of the city)

*At Aichi Triennale 2013, approximately 75 artists / groups from Japan and abroad will be exhibiting their work. It will be Japan’s largest international arts festival introducing cutting-edge contemporary art.
*In addition to the main venue of the Aichi Arts Center, which contains facilities such as the Aichi Prefectural Museum of Art, exhibitions will be held at the Nagoya City Art Museum and other areas in the cities of Nagoya and Okazaki, such as Choja-machi district and Nayabashi district.
*The concept of “Architecture” is used as a guide for the selection process of artists and art works.
*Spectacular installations are considered to enhance the appeal of urban space.
*The participation of 8 artists / groups, in addition to the 4 artists previously announced in October 2011, has been decided.

Exhibition of Works selected by Curatorial Competition

*Rising artists’ works, selected by curatorial competition, will be exhibited.

Stage Arts

Performing Arts

*15 to 20 domestic and international artist groups will participate and perform dance, theater, and music pieces at the Aichi Arts Center and also on the city streets.
*The performances will be organized in line with the theme of “Awakening”, which will compel us to rethink the question of “Where Are We Standing?”
*Emphasis will be made on cross-genre works that bridge the categories of dance, theater, art, architecture, etc.
*Participation of 2 groups has been confirmed.

Produce Opera

*”Madama Butterfly”, an opera created by fusing Italian tradition and culture with those of Japan, will be performed at the hands of an up-and-rising producer.
*Beautiful music entwined with Japanese melody and a novel stage space will be presented at the Theater of the Aichi Arts Center.

Activities for Spreading Art & Art Education

Kids Triennale

*Spaces will be set up where children can enjoy creative activities. Workshops to encourage artistic creativity will also be held.

Programs for Schools

*Special-viewing programs designed for students and also artists’ visits to schools and other facilities will be planned to encourage exchange between art and education.

Theme related Programs (tentative title)

*Programs (lectures, etc.) for the general public will be held to promote understanding of artists and art works.

Development of Festivity

Festive Week

*During the period of the Triennale, a festivity week will be set (for 7 days from Mon., Sep. 30 to Sun., Oct. 6, 2013). Stage performances will be held at the Theater, the Concert Hall and the Mini Theater of the Aichi Arts Center conducted in a joint sponsorship with local organizations selected from open call.

Architecture related Project (tentative title)

*To rediscover the cities’ charm from an architectural point of view, architectural maps will be made and open architectures (buildings open to public) will be arranged.

Association with Local Communities

Triennale Truck (tentative title) (mobile exhibition)

*Art works by participating artists will be exhibited at some of the local cultural facilities in the area.

Inter-University Project

*In cooperation with local art universities, art works will be exhibited at “ART LAB AICHI”, located in Choja-machi district.

Partnership Activities

*Applications for cultural events will be accepted from private corporations, municipal governments and local cultural and art groups to mutually spread publicity through websites and other media.

Support System

Volunteers

*Volunteers will support the Triennale as monitors for the art works, guides for art tours (explanations of displayed works in a tour format), etc. These activities will raise the atmosphere of the Triennale.
