From the middle of the Edo Period to the beginning of the Showa Era, the Choja-machi area was a lively entertainment area. After World War II, the area grew as one of the three largest textile wholesale districts in Japan. Currently, the district is surrounded by modern office buildings, but still possesses ancient historical structures such as the Meeting Hall, as well as the unique views and atmosphere of a textile wholesale district. Furthermore, the district possesses more than a few vacant buildings and stores, as well as facilities such as parking lots and open public areas. These spaces will be exhibition and performance stages during the triennale period.
