Boris Charmatz "Quintette Cercle"

September 4th 18:00

September 5th 14:00

Venue: Meijo Park (north side of the moat)

Duration: about 40 minutes

Free entry

Based on the astonishing premise of singing compositions by the famous Russian composer Galina Ustvolskaya (1919-2006) in the style of contemporary radio hits, Boris Charmatz's "Quintette Cercle" attempts to create a new choreographic language that combines the formalism of traditional ballet with the expression and aesthetics of contemporary dance. Joining hands and standing in a circle, the performers devote themselves to the singing of Ustvolskaya's 'holistic' music and her impressive evocations of Russia, the modern age, history and the world.

This site-specific performance will unfold among the wisteria cloisters and Citizens' Forest on the north side of the moat in Meijo Park, with a spectacular view of Nagoya Castle in the distance. An absolute highlight of the Aichi Triennale that is not to be missed!

Another related work by Boris Charmatz entitled "héâtre-élévision" will also be on view at the Nayabashi site.
